I think it is wildly shared because it is a great story about a young guy who gave up all of his stuff and just started following one of his dreams. I think the reason that no one really pursues it is because it is a dangerous adventure and hardly snyone wants to take the risk like Chris McCandless did.
Just saying your reasoning of why it is widely shared makes no sense what so ever. I think it is widely share because everyone wants to try something new, and the wilderness is adventurous and is portrayed as easy to survive in, this book sheds the light by basically saying it is not easy to survive on your own in the wilderness.
I do this so much with my friends; I'll start talking how fun it would be to live in the wilderness just surviving even just for a week. Then my friends and I will make plans to actually do it, but we don't end up doing it. This supports this post and the reason it didn't happen for me because I just don't have the time in my busy schedule. That is the only reason I can come up with.
The thought of dropping everything and moving to the wilderness is a very widespread thought. especially when people start getting stressed out. However, no one really pursues it because we are so wrapped up in our material things. People like living in their warm house with their nice clothes and a job to keep money coming into the household. People enjoy their family and friend and their company. Thats why no one ever pursues it. they would lose all those things.
I believe some people are just way too scared to actually try. They see these people who have already tried and died so they think it will happen to them so they dont go.
