Focus Question #4

In the novel it seems as though Chris is searching for his identity.  Do you think he found it before or after his death?

  1. I Chris did find his Identity before he died. Chris wanted to go home, and that is because he finally found himself. He got his fix on adventure, and he was finally ready to go home and forgive his family. I believe that if he knew how to cross the river, he would have entered society again, because he found himself.

    1. I totally agree with you. He should have just stayed home and he would have never died.

    3. Taylor, If he stayed home thought would he have ever figured out who he was? I agree with you Dale, if he knew about the way to get across the river while in his weak stage he could have made it home and back to society and would have finally been happy.

  2. How do you find your identity after you die?? I believe Chris did find his identity before he died. He finally discovered who he is. He found his true self. He came to realize that he wasn't all about adventures but when he realized he did wrong and needed to go apologize to friends and family it was too late. He should have thought about it before it was too late. He made a dumb mistake by ingesting seed pods that then killed him.

    1. Well Taylor, I am not exactly sure how you find yourself after your dead, however I do a feel that exact same way that you do. I wish that Chris could have had a happier ending.

    2. I was wondering the same thing. I agree completely with your reasoning he realized he already knew his true identity, but like you said it was too late.

  3. Obviously he found his true identity before his death. He just wanted to go home and be with his family and forgive them. He found his true identity too late unfortunately because he was on the path of death. He even started to forgive God and let God know that he found his true identity and he is okay with who he is and has no regrets.

  4. Yes Chris McCandless found his true identity. I think if he would have been more prepared he would have been able to come home and live his life completely happily. However he wasn't prepared well enough and found himself a little to late. If he would have made his realizations earlier then maybe he could have lived long enough to get home.

    1. Agree, If Chris would have brought more things like food, water, and better clothing then he probably could of made it out alive and live a full life. But instead he didn't and he ended up dying at a early age.

  5. I belive he found his identity right before he died when he was carving his last words. His words showed more than just a plea. t showed an enourmous realization.
